A toad patrol group covering Alsager and Sandbach is expanding and it's appealing for volunteers.

Smallwood Toad Patrols, which was launched over four years ago, is branching out into Middlewich and it needs your help.

The group, which patrols during the mating season when toads return to their natal ponds, has identified a location in Middlewich.

Now the group, who patrol in Cherry Lane, Alsager and Lawton Heath and Brookhouse Lane, Moss End Lane, Pitcher Lane, Mill Lane and Back Lane in Smallwood, is holding a meeting.

Co-ordinator and Alsager resident, Jane Smith, who launched the group, says there is a significant toad crossing site in Cledford Lane.

She said: "This site has been identified and needs a toad patrol next spring.

"On Monday, November 21st we're holding an informal drop-in at the Turnpike Inn in Warmingham Lane, Middlewich from 7pm till 9pm for anyone who'd like to know more.

"Please come along and meet us if you're interested in helping."

The group has more than 40 volunteers, ranging from eight years of age to 73 from as far away as Macclesfield and Stoke-on-Trent but also Sandbach and Alsager.

Anyone who is interested in getting involved in the Middlewich patrol is urged to attend the meeting.

More information about the group can be found at https://www.facebook.com/SmallwoodToadPatrols/
