Alsager residents push for road improvements as traffic shortcuts stir concern

An Alsager councillor and residents are pressing for improvements to a road going through their estate which has become a short cut for traffic.
Alsager district councillor, Rod Fletcher, wants improvements to Richard Woodcock Way on the former Tywford factory site to be made so vehices no longer use it as a short cut.
He said: "When the detailed Planning Application for 269 houses to be built on the former Twyford's Factory Site, Alsager Town Council objected to have a through route through the estate.
"Cheshire East planning department, however, did allow a through route. Most of this estate is now occupied and for some time residents on Richrd Woodcock Way have expressed concern about speeding vehicles using the road as a short cut from Linley Lane avoiding Lawton lights.
"I and many residents have expressed concern to Cheshire East and the developers but with very little action."
Cheshire East council's highways department has revealed that a study looks set to be carried out into the area and traffic management issues.
In a reply to Cllr Fletcher's enquiry they said: "The council received some S106 funding for traffic management measures and we are using this to progress an investigation into widening the footpath below the railway bridge.
"As part of this study, which will commence shortly, we are also doing further work to understand the issues in the drainage system including jetting out and surveys of the existing system with a view to securing a longer term solution.
"We will update when the feasibility study is completed on next steps and timelines when the feasibility study is completed on next steps and timelines."
A spokesperson from Cheshire East Council said: "The council has received a number of different S106 planning monies for the purpose of footway works, pedestrian crossing alterations, local highway works and traffic and transportation impacts arising from development.
"Our highways team is considering how they may best use these to provide a solution that also addresses drainage issues."
