Frustrated Alsager residents are calling on Cheshire East to unblock drains which are causing pools of water to form on pavements and roads around Lawton road.

Local resident Jane Orpington says "Most of the drains along Lawton road are either partially or fully blocked and the water has nowhere to go after heavy rainfall so just sits on the road or pavement.

"Some of the drains have grass and vegetation growing out of them, it's ridiculous for be honest".

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said: "We will be emptying all gullies along Lawton Road in June, as part of our planned gullies maintenance programme.

"During our visit, we will identify any that require additional attention, such as vegetation clearance or jetting works.

"We maintain more than 100,000 gullies across the borough: emptying and inspecting them for any damage.

"Some gullies vary in the speed they can drain water away. Some will overflow during heavy rain even if there is no blockage. The water will clear when the rain stops. We will not visit overflowing gullies during heavy rainfall unless the water is causing a risk to life or property.

"Residents can help us by reporting urgent issues on 0300 123 5020 in hours, or 0300 123 5025 out of hours. For non-emergency reports, contact us online at fixmystreet.cheshireeast.gov.uk."
