Alsager resident takes part in Cheshire East Council 's official proclamation announcing the new King today

Crowds gathered at the Cheshire East Council HQ in Sandbach today (Sunday) for the official proclamation announcing the succession of King Charles III.

The proclamation at Westfields was led by the Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor David Marren, accompanied by the Archdeacon of Macclesfield and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, Joelle Warren, who lives in Alsager.

The Archdeacon of Macclesfield, The Venerable Ian Bishop, led a short service commemorating the life of Her Majesty the late Queen Elizabeth II.

During the service, the Venerable Ian Bishop offered prayers for King Charles III asking for the King to know peoples' wisdom, have joy in service and love from others.

He also made reference to the Queen Consort's role and being a partner in leadership.

It is customary for councils to hold their proclamation the day after the Royal proclamation, in London, on this occasion at St James's Palace at 11am during a meeting of the Privy Council.
