A former Alsager town councillor and local residents are hoping plans to build on a piece of land used as a 'much needed open space' don't resurface.

Cheshire East councillors refused permission for Plus Dane Housing to build 68 affordable homes on land off Linley Road as revealed here

Councillors refused permission for the 'cramped' affordable homes saying it would have left the council picking up the tab for infrastructure as revealed here  .

Alsager resident Sue Helliwell, a former town councillor, who has campaigned against the land being built on, spoke against the plan at the meeting.

She told Nub News: "My fear is now that Plus Dane might appeal. I just hope this, if it happened, would be fought robustly by council officers.

"There is no other land that can mitigate the loss of this area which has so much flora and fauna.

"It should be kept as a public open space. The plan was just too cramped."

A nearby business, which didn't want to be named, said they feared the road, which is already busy, wouldn't be able to cope with any extra traffic.

"It's busy enough as it is. We can't possibly have any more vehicles on Linley Road. It just couldn't take it."

Alsager Nub News told here how Sue Helliwell had leafleted leafleted 150 homes near the space off Talke Road to try to stop the plan.

Sue's campaign to stop the land being built on started back in December 2021 revealed here when she first heard about Cheshire East Council planning to 'dispose' of a public open space near allotments in Alsager.
