A senior nurse practitioner in Alsager got the chance relive her nursing memories when she used a uniform for a display to celebrate 75 years of the NHS.

Vicky Shone kept her senior staff nurse uniform from her days nearly 30 years' ago at the Royal London Hospital.

And the uniform, which is the same design as used on TV's 'Call the Midwife', was used in a display at the Merepark Medical Centre in Alsager.

"I've kept it in my loft but haven't worn it since my days in London," said the advanced nurse practitioner, who has also nursed in Australia.

"It still fits but I'd forgotten just how heavy it is and how much ironing it used to take," she joked.

Vicky, who is moving to a lecturing job at Keele University, tried on the uniform for her colleagues to see at the practice in Alsager.

It was also put on display in the reception area of the practice in Sandbach Road South.

The team at Merepark, including operations manager, Tracey Masterton and care co-ordinator, Jo Cooke, put together a display in reception to celebrate the NHS's 75th birthday.

Even the windows of the practice have a colourful display marking the important milestone in the NHS's history.

Care co-ordinator, Jo, delved into the archives to find a photograph of nurses' uniforms during the years and newspaper cuttings.

One talks about the National Health Service treating nearly 30,000,00 patients in the first ten weeks.

It also included hospital transport and ambulances and a quote from Aneurin "Nye" Bevan who spearheaded the move for the NHS.

"No society can legitimately call itself civilised if a sick person is denied medical aid because of a lack of means," said Mr Bevan.

Another of his famous quotes is: "It will last as long as there are folk left with the faith to fight for it."
