Youngsters at Townhouse Nurseries in Alsager have been getting all creative to celebrate Black History month which finishes this week.
Pre-school looked at the work of Alma Thomas, the first African American to have her artwork displayed as an exhibition.
She is best known for colourful abstract paintings and pre-school school got into character as they put on their African inspired outfits and observed Alma's work.
The children looked at the bright colours she created before creating their own interpretation of her work enhanced by the natural light of the window.
And it wasn't just inside where the children have been learning all things African – they have taken their project outside learning about Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan social, environmental, and political activist and the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
They also learnt about the American political activist, Harriet Tubman who escaped and made thirteen missions to rescue around 70 enslaved people.
During the American Civil War, Harriet Tubman served as an armed scout and spy for the Union Army so pre-school made their own air raid shelter and learnt how people stayed in them together to stay safe.
And they even engaged in a discussion about children's rights and their freedom of speech before going on to make their own flag with an 'Albatross' bird on which represents freedom.
