Alsager goes 'green' to mark the start of Fair Trade Fortnight at event in the town

Crowds turned out to Alsager's Green Fair held at Alsager Civic to raise awareness of a number of initiatives in the town.

Around 20 stall holders including Alsager Girl Guiding to Alsager Clean Team, Alsager in Bloom, Alsager Ladies Lifeboat Guild, Tools with a Mission and Community Recycle Cycles and Alsager.

Alsager's Fairtrade group were also there yesterday (Saturday) to help mark the launch of Fairtrade week which starts tomorrow (February 27) and runs until March 12th.

The event was run by Alsager Town Council and the Ethical, Local, Fairtrade (ELF)/Fairtrade group in the town.

Nicola Clarke, Alsager Town Council clerk said: "It went very well and we're pleased with the excellent turnout and the awareness which this event has raised."

Town councillor Rachel White, who helped spearhead the event said: "A big thank you to the stall holders, Alsager Civic, Alsager Fairtrade Steering Group and Alsager town councillors and Clerk for making the Alsager ELF and Green Fair happen.

"To those who came along, we hope you enjoyed it and went away with useful information.

"To those who couldn't attend, hopefully there will be another ELF and Green Fair in 2024."

Alsager was awarded Fairtrade status in 2007.
