This year's Alsager Charity Beer and Gin Festival opens today (Friday) at 6 pm with record crowds expected to attend the fundraising event.

Every year, Alsager Cricket Club in Fairview Avenue holds a three day fundraising festival and this year it took place over this weekend - starting on today (26 June) running through until Sunday (28 June).

Scorching temperatures and a packed programme of events are set to make the event, in its ninth year, a bumper success.

Last year it raised £6,000 for local charities and this year organisers are expecting a similar amount.

This year, there will be 22 real ales, 16 gins, lager, ciders and spirits available at the event which opens at 6 pm today (Friday). There will be live music from Circa 81, specialist food van, Argentinian Street Kitchen and live cricket and music throughout the evening.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the event opens from 12 noon with Wildfire Pizza, food from Alsager scouts, live music from Hayley, DJ Mav into the evening and Alsager Cricket Club's 1st XI at home. The FIFA World Cup England match will be on the giant screens inside and out at 10pm.

The final day of the event takes place on Sunday (28 June) when it opens at 12 noon and the last chance to enjoy the festival before the ales and gins run dry.

A spokesperson for the event said: " The festival has raised over £32,000 for charity so far. This year, let's see if we can smash our previous records and raise even more for great causes.

After all….. The beer and gin are important… but raising money for charity is what makes this festival really special
