An Alsager couple are counting the cost of Storm Henk after their 120-year-old cottage flooded for the third time.

Christine and Luther Turner and their two dogs have had to move into temporary accommodation near Congleton after storm water ravaged their home in Linley Road.

The couple, both in their 70s, were forced to flee their home, Slate Cottage, earlier this week when heavy rain battered the area.

Firefighters had to rescue two people from their car under the bridge near their home, known locally as the Twyford bridge as we revealed here

Now the couple are waiting for a visit from their insurance assessors to find out the extent of the damage and come up with a way forward.

"Everywhere was covered in black silt and the water came up to the third step on the stairs," said Christine who blames a blocked culvert for the on-going issue.

"It's the third time we've had to leave our house due to flooding. So many things are damaged. The furniture is water stained and drawers won't close because the wood has swollen.

"Everywhere is such a mess. It will take months to dry everywhere out. We've been told to leave the heating on to start the process."

The couple moved to the idyllic cottage overlooking rolling countryside in 2015 and had their first flood in 2019.

"We had four years without flooding. The water was half way up the stairs this time. It's so distressing and there's a simple fix – to clear the blocked culvert.

"We looked at the culvert three weeks ago and could see it hadn't been emptied. It's an on-going problem but there's a simple fix. It's so frustrating."

Alsager Nub News told here in February 2021 how the couple who had endured 16 months of flooding nightmares were staying in holiday accommodation

"Someone must take on responsibility of unblocking and maintaining the culvert responsible for this flooding," said Christine.

"This has now, once again, resulted in severe flood damage to our home

"Flooding on January 2nd has left our home flooded five foot deep and the flooding on Linley Lane itself submerged a car.

"Until this culvert is maintained appropriately, this will continue to happen. We have lost everything, again."
