They want to help two donkeys, Tom and Jerry, father and son, who have recently been rescued.

"Abandoned, abused and neglected horses and donkeys are unfortunately a reality in Menorca," said Sarah who runs Dogskool in Alsager.

The rescue currently has around 30 animals in its care and is run solely by volunteers and with minimal funding other than that raised by supporters.

"A few years ago, we discovered the equine rescue in Menorca. They do an amazing job rescuing horses and donkeys, as well as pigs, ducks, chickens and cats," said Sarah.

"They receive minimal funding so we all have to work really hard to raise money to feed and look after the animals.

"It relies on volunteers like us to work there and help to fundraiser. It's run by a British lady who has lived on Menorca for many years."

Sarah added: "Menorca is a wealthy island with fabulous superyachts and yet it's a huge struggle to keep the rescue going.

"The land and stables are rented but are ramshackle and always in need of constant repair and funds are always tight.

"Tom and Jerry arrived recently, very nervous and reluctant to trust any human offering support. However, the team is working very hard to build their trust.

"We need help to raise funds for an essential veterinary procedure as soon as possible."
