Alsager hosts Civic Service for the town's Cllr Rod Fletcher, Cheshire East Mayor, this weekend

Volunteers, councillors and other members of the Cheshire East wide community will be coming on Sunday (November 5th) for a Cheshire East Civic Service this year being held in Alsager.

There will be a Civic Service for Alsager Town Council councillor and Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor Rod Fletcher, at the church where he worships. Wesley Place Methodist Church in Lawton Road, on Sunday at 3 pm.

The service will be led by the church's Minister, Rev Rob Hilton, Superintendent of the Cheshire South Methodist Circuit.

Rev Hilton said: "I am delighted to be asked to conduct this Civic Service for Cheshire East. It's a great honour. Cllr Fletcher is a member of this church and it's his 7th Civic Service. "

Cllr Fletcher was sworn as Mayor of Cheshire East in May this year as we reported here

A former rail worker, Cllr Fletcher has been a councillor for nearly 45 years. First elected to Alsager Town Council in 1979, he went on to become a Congleton Borough councillor in 1980 and served on that council until it was abolished in 2009.

He has was also a member of Cheshire County Council from 2005 to 2009 and has been a Cheshire East councillor since the authority was formed in 2009.

Cllr Fletcher had a career working on the railways, starting as a junior clerk with British Rail and working his way up to become control manager for a train operating company.
