Alsager business says falling footfall due to parking charges was 'final nail in the coffin'

A card shop which has been in Alsager for around 15 year is closing and its owners say recently introduced car parking charges were the 'final nail in the coffin' for their business.
Carla and Mike Bayliss, who run 'From Me to You' in the town centre say footfall has gradually decreased since Cheshire East Council started charging for motorists to pay on the Fairview car park opposite.

They say this, coupled with an increase in rent charges on the property, have led them to make the tough decision to close doors 'in a couple of weeks'.
Signs saying 'All stock reduced, store closing, everything must go" are in the front of the Lawton Road shop.
Carla, who lives in Kidsgrove with partner Mike said: "We're gutted. It's terrible but it just isn't viable to carry on trading.
"Our customers know that we usually have something for everyone but we can't continue.
"It's sad but we can't see any other alternative."
Mike added that hellium for balloons had increase by '500 per cent' since Russia invaded Ukraine and said customers had remained loyal to the business.
"I'd like to say a big thank you to our loyal customers. We're sorry but we can't carry the business on."
