A skilled artist with a studio in Alsager is launching his latest exhibition 'landscapes and beyond - a one man show by Ged Mitchell' - next weekend.

Local artist, Ged, is celebrating 40 years in the business and 10 years at his studio in Crewe Road, Alsager with the exhibition which opens next Saturday (October 19th) and runs until November 2nd.

Every year, Ged throws open the doors to his Alsager studio, 'The Artists Studio', renamed from The Cottage Gallery a while back, so art lovers can view his work.

And this year it's even more special as it marks a decade in Alsager and four decades in the art business for Ged whose Facebook page is here .

Ged, a self-taught artist, specialises in acrylics and water colours and paints from memory but admits he gets inspiration from some nearby Sandbach which is where he lives.

The Alsager premises is Ged's third gallery. He has had galleries in Wheelock, Sandbach before moving on to Alsager.

A keen fisherman as well as a musician, Ged enjoys fishing in The Dingle fishing lake and Peggy's Pool in Sandbach, so much so one of his paintings features the latter.

"I just love painting and always have," said Ged in a previous interview with Nub News.

"If you love doing something it doesn't feel like hard work. When I was at school, I used to doodle all day long. I realised then I had a talent.

"It's a good idea for people to come into the studio and see an artist at work.

Ged lives in Sandbach Heath and will often get inspiration from walking in nearby countryside.

"Sometimes I will see colours in a silver birch tree. The way the light shines on the tree can change the tree's colour," he said.

"I do take photographs to remember things by but I mostly paint from memory," says Ged.
