The A500 at Barthomley is currently closed for emergency repairs, following a car crash and blaze on the evening of Thursday 5 February.

At 7.50pm, emergency services were called to a crash on the A500 between the M6 and Meremoor Roundabout.

They discovered a black Audi A4 and a grey Peugeot 2008 had smashed into each other, with one of the vehicles setting fire, spreading to the other.

Two casualties received first aid, before being transported to hospital by North West Ambulance Service Paramedics. They are expected to make a full recovery.

Due to the crash and blaze, part of the major road was damaged, with Cheshire East Highways called to the scene.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews attended a collision involving two cars, one of which had caught fire, with the blaze spreading to the second vehicle.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

"Two casualties received initial first aid at the scene before being transported to hospital by paramedics.

Cheshire East Highways remain at the scene, assessing the damage to the A500 road surface.

Highways officers say they are "working hard" to make the area safe to reopen it "as soon as possible."
