Meet Alsager's first funeral celebrant trained by Humanists UK
Andrew Donkin has become Alsager's first Funeral Celebrant trained and accredited by Humanists UK.
Andrew has lived in Rydal Way, Alsager for over 25 years and recently retired from a career as a sale director for a plastics firm before retraining as a celebrant.
A funeral celebrant is a qualified person, usually from a non-clergy background, who officiates funeral ceremonies. They typically help organise and conduct funerals in crematoria or burialgrounds and also conduct memorial ceremonies which can be held at any time following a cremation in a place chosen by family and friends.
Andrew, whose website details are here, said: "Humanism is a non-religious outlook on life which advocates love, kindness and support for our fellow human beings.
"Humanists UK run an excellent training course for funeral celebrants and I'm proud to be a member of the UK's leading network of non-religious celebrants.
"We aim in our ceremonies to provide a deeply personal remembrance of an individual and this flows from a meeting we hold with the family, at which we get to talk all about the life and times of their loved one and share memories.
"Together we make a ceremony that is a fitting tribute. We focus on life and the individual who lived."
