With so much going on, it can be a challenge to remember when to put your bins out over the festive period.

To make your life easier, we have put together this handy guide to remind you what bin needs putting out and when.

Cheshire East residents are reminded that changes to their collection dates can also be found on the council website here.

Councillor David Jefferay, chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, said: "The changes to collections over the festive season will not affect all residents – they will only affect households that have their recycling (silver bin) or residual waste (black bin) collected on a Thursday or a Friday.

"Some collections will be brought forward, and others pushed back, depending on people's normal bin collection day. More information can be found on our website and our online bin collection calendar, which has been updated with the rescheduled collections.

"I encourage people who may have relatives, friends or neighbours without access to the internet to check this information for them, so they don't miss out on any collections.

"I'd also like to remind residents that they can now sign up, or renew their subscription, to the council's Garden Waste Recycling Scheme if they would like to have their garden waste collected from January.

"Finally, I'd like to thank our waste colleagues, who will be continuing to deliver essential frontline services over the festive period."

Residual waste (black bin)

Black bins due for collection on Christmas Day, Thursday December 25, will instead be collected on Tuesday, December 23.

Meanwhile, black bins due for collection on Boxing Day, Friday December 26, will now be collected on Monday, December 29..

Looking to the new year, black bins due to be collected on New Year's Day, Thursday January 1, will not be collected until Monday, January 5.

Recycling (silver bin)

Silver bins due for collection on Christmas Day, Thursday December 25, will now be collected on Monday, December 22.

Those whose collection date falls on Boxing Day, Friday December 26, will instead need to put their silver bin out on Tuesday, December 30.

There will be quite a wait for those whose silver bins are due to be collected on New Year's Day, Thursday January 1.

They will now have to put their bin out on Tuesday, January 6.

Garden waste

Garden waste collections for subscribers to the council's Garden Waste Recycling Scheme will finish on Friday, December 19.

They will restart for subscribers to the 2026 scheme from the week commencing January 19.
