Eleven walkers are getting ready to scale the heady heights of Snowdon this weekend - to raise money for two stroke groups.

The walkers are taking part in a charity walk on Saturday (July 2nd)  to raise funds for Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group in Alsager and Crewe.

Walkers are hoping to raise between £1,000 and £1,500 to help with the work of both groups, the second one which was set up in Alsager last month as detailed here https://alsager.nub.news/news/local-news/stroke-survivor-helps-run-new-group-in-alsager-for-survivors-of-the-life-threatening-medical-condition-131779

Founder Liz Bedson has set up a 'GoFund Me' page for the walk and will be helping to run it while husband, Gary, joins the other ten walkers taking part.

"I'm incredibly proud of everyone taking part. It's wonderful to see everyone working together and we've even got a 'ground crew' helping at the bottom.

"The two groups are working well and are a brilliant resource for stroke survivors. It's lovely see people making progress and making good friends.

"This money raised will help us to run the two groups and support the people who come along to use them."

Liz added: "We do not receive any central funding from the Government, or other charitable causes so rely on fundraising and kind donations.

"Any funding we receive does go straight towards any activity that we do with our survivors."

Walkers include Chris, aged 55, a stroke survivor himself and Liz's twin son and daughter, Dan and Sophie Hughes

The Snowdon group also includes a school nurse from Liverpool and 22-year-old Cam who recently became a volunteer for the Crewe group.

Donations for the walk can be made through the GoFund Me page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/Charity-Walk-up-Snowdon-Stroke-Survivors-Crewe?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer

The Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Support Groups are based at The Thirteen Club in Alsager (Thursdays, 10.30am) and Union Street Baptist Church on Union Street in Crewe (Tuesdays, 11am).

Sessions run in six week blocks, then have two weeks off.
