Sgt John Roberts is relishing his new job heading up the policing of Alsager and the surrounding area.

The 39-year-old father-of- two has worked in Crewe and other areas but he says there's something unique about Alsager which sets it aside and gives it its charm.

Sgt Roberts is just weeks into his new job, but he has spent time getting to know local people and finding out exactly what they want from their local policing unit.

"It's a busy town but very pleasant. There's everything you need in this area and it is a very safe town," he said.

"My work involves building trust up and empowering the community. I'm a people's person and like to be out and about.

"I love challenges and making that little bit of difference to peoples' lives. It's what the job is all about – making a difference."

Sgt Roberts covers a wide area with his team of four police officers and two PCSOs from Rode Heath and Church Lawton to Odd Rode, Mow Cop and Scholar Green.

He spent his first few weeks in post dealing with a number of long-standing issues in the town – all of which he dealt with in his kind, compassionate way.

"Everyone has a right to a quality of life and to feel safe in their homes. It's about building reassurance and empowering the community to work together," said Sgt Roberts.

And it's this working together to build the Alsager which everyone wants which is key to the town's future, says Sgt Roberts who lives in Stoke-on-Trent.

And he says people in Alsager have the perfect opportunity to get involved and give their opinion on policing and the way forward, with 'Residents' Voice'

Sgt Roberts also says the lack of a police building in Alsager doesn't affect the policing of the town.

"You might not see them but they will know where to be. There is a dedicated team working in Alsager," he said.
