A talented artist from Sandbach Heath has renamed his Alsager studio and given it a fresh look.

Well-known artist, Ged Mitchell, recently finished his 'One Man Show' at his Crewe Road premises.

Ged threw open the doors to the Alsager studio and invited art lovers to view his work.

He has also renamed his business 'The Artists Studio', a change from its former name, The Cottage Gallery.

And the 66-year-old self-taught artist is now hoping more people will come and see him at work painting in the Alsager base.

Ged specialises in acrylics and water colours and paints from memory but admits he gets inspiration from some Sandbach vistas.

The Alsager premises is Ged's third gallery. He has had galleries in Wheelock, Sandbach before moving on to Alsager.

A keen fisherman as well as a musician, Ged enjoys fishing in The Dingle fishing lake and Peggy's Pool in Sandbach, so much so one of his paintings features the latter.

"I just love painting and always have," said Ged who spends hours perfecting his works of art.

"If you love doing something it doesn't feel like hard work. When I was at school, I used to doodle all day long. I realised then I had a talent.

"It's a good idea for people to come into the studio and see an artist at work.

And it seems Ged's artist streak has rubbed off on to his family. One of Ged's two grandchildren, Hunter (8) seems to have his grandfather's artistic flair.

"He's showing a lot of promise," said Ged. "He loves painting cars and football."

Ged lives in Sandbach Heath and will often get inspiration from walking in nearby countryside.

"Sometimes I will see colours in a silver birch tree. The way the light shines on the tree can change the tree's colour.

"I do take photographs to remember things by but I mostly paint from memory," says Ged.
