Storm Darragh brings high winds and blows trees down in Alsager

High winds have caused havoc in Alsager and surrounding areas as Storm Darragh brings high winds.

At least three large trees were blown down in Merelake Road, Alsager with other areas of the town also affected.

Cheshire Police say they have been made aware of another we are aware of a fallen tree on Linley Lane, Alsager which has been referred to Cheshire East Council.

The Met Office has issued to following advice to motorists driving in high winds:

  • Driving slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts
  • Be aware of high sided vehicles/caravans on more exposed roads
  • Be cautious overtaking high sided vehicles/caravans
  • Make sure you hold the steering wheel firmly
  • Give cyclists, motorcyclists, lorries and buses more room than usual

Alsager Nub News reader Kev Rutter and his wife Carol were on their daily walk when they came across the three big trees.

"They were blocking the road. We struggled to walk past them and it looked as if a telephone wore had come down as well."

Cheshire Police have been contacted for advice for motorists during high winds.
