Summer food bags on their way to families - thanks to Girlguiding Alsager's centenary project
Families in Alsager and the surrounding area are set to get a boost this summer – thanks to the kind-hearted girlguiding community in Alsager.
Members of Alsager Girlguiding, who range from Rainbows to Rangers, were asked to bring in items to put in food summer packages for Alsager and District Foodbank.
And members of the group handed over their donations, altogether 31 'summer food bags' to Alsager and District Foodbank.
The initiative is part of Girlguiding Alsager's celebrations for their 100th year this year, 2024.
Joint District Commissioner, Teresa Longhurst said: "We're doing something different every month to celebrate our 100th anniversary."
"This was our July project and we're delighted with the response we had. The six-week holiday is a long time so we thought we'd do something to help."
Each bag contained items such as wraps to make sandwiches, snack bars and other food items normally found in a lunch box.
A spokesperson from Alsager and District Foodbank said: "We would like to thank this wonderful group of young people for the invaluable help they have given us over the years.
"This donation of bags is so welcome in time for the school holidays. Thank you everyone who contributed."
Each month, Girlguiding Alsager is doing a different activity to celebrate their centenary. Next month there is a family picnic while in December the group will be holding a party at Alsager Civic.
