Alsager dental practice urges parents to ensure their children attend regular check-ups

Did you know that tooth decay is the most common reason for children, aged between five to nine years old, to be admitted to hospital?
And more than a fifth of five-year-olds in England have tooth decay, affecting three to four teeth on average.
But it needn't be this way if we encourage positive oral health habits from an early age to prevent tooth decay - as Dr Matt Gilks, owner of Lawton Dental Care, explained.

"Tooth decay happens when sugars from food and drinks interact with bacteria in plaque. This results in acid production, causing holes in teeth known as cavities.
"If children have tooth decay, they may have white, brown or black spots on their teeth" - he explained.
"They may also complain about their teeth hurting, particularly when eating or drinking".
As Dr Gilks explained, tooth decay is largely preventable, but it's still a serious problem among young children. "With regular check-ups in our practice and following a good routine at home, childhood decay can be avoided" he said.
Lawton Dental Care is a private dental practice on Lawton Road that puts its patients at the forefront of everything it does.
The team has built an enviable reputation for offering both outstanding dental care and a compassionate patient-centred experience.
The practice offers an initial new patient consultation for under 12's which is £30 and £45 for children aged 12 and over.

"Once the initial consultation is complete, your child is able to join our membership which includes two dental health examinations per year, small x-rays and fluoride treatment when required, as well as 20% discount on core dental treatment."
Fees for the above are £7 per month for under 12's and £10.50 per month for children aged 12 and over.
"Our children's membership plans make private dental care affordable, starting at just 24p per day, helping to ensure your child's dental health is well maintained" said Dr Gilks.
"Establishing a positive relationship with the dentist from an early age can reduce any fear or anxiety about dental visits, leading to better long-term oral health habits and a lifetime of healthy smiles."
He added: "We encourage parents to implement positive oral health habits for their children at home too, make brushing and flossing something fun that they do together."
Lawton Dental Care has a built up a valuable reputation since Dr Gilks took over the practice in July 2022 with rave Google reviews, including ones from parents.
One Alsager mum said: "It was an easy decision to sign my two children up to the dental membership after we had our initial appointment, Dr Matt and the team were so welcoming, knowledgable and took the time to get to know us and make the children feel at ease."
