Transforming summer breaks: drama classes aim to boost children's confidence
By Deborah Bowyer 28th Jun 2026
Keeping children occupied and happy during the long summer holidays can be a tough time but a local business owner has come up with a solution.
Former drama student, Alice Bramley, launched Drama Kids Mid Cheshire classes in Rode Heath near Alsager and Astbury near Congleton earlier this year.
The classes have proved a massive success, helping children to find their voice, express their ideas with confidence and carry the self-belief to thrive.

And now children can sign up to get their 'creative boost' at a series of summer workshops Alice is running throughout the long summer break.
A workshop has been confirmed for Rode Heath taking place at the Young People's Community Centre in Chapel Lane at the end of August. The workshop take place on 26, 27 and 28 of August. To book just click this link here.
She said: "The summer holidays are the perfect time for children to learn new skills and dip their toes into classes and make new friends.
"Drama classes offer far more than acting skills," said Alice. "They build foundational life skills like confidence, empathy, and effective communication.
"By participating in imaginative play and performance, children learn to articulate their ideas clearly, process complex emotions, and collaborate seamlessly with their peers."

Alice added: "Over three action-packed days, students will work together to create an original play from scratch.
"They'll develop ideas, write scenes, create characters, rehearse, and bring their vision to life before performing their finished production for family and friends."
Drama Kids Mid Cheshire is also urging parents an d carers to sign up children for classes emphasising the importance of keeping classes small which allows children who get overwhelmed by big class sizes to thrive.
"Small class sizes can significantly enhance educational outcomes by enabling richer teacher-student relationships and can provide a calmer learning environment," said Alice.
"It can be easier to tailor work to different learning styles in smaller classes. I would always say to parents don't be put off by smaller class sizes. Sometimes this helps."
Alice has a real passion for the spoken word and seeing children thrive. She volunteers her finely-tuned English skills at Alsager School and she's hoping her love of drama will enthuse local children join her classes.
Alice, who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Drama Studies from Bath Spa University, alongside a Master's in Creative Writing from Chester, saw how drama classes helped build her own self confidence.
"I began drama lessons in Kent 25 years ago, back when Drama Kids was known as Helen O'Grady. Starting at age four as a shy child, drama helped me grow in confidence," she said.
"My old drama lessons when I was growing up gave me confidence, communication and creativity for life, and I want to pass these skills on to the next generation," she said.

She added: "Drama Kids gave me confidence, communication and creativity for life, and I can't wait to pass those skills on to the next generation."
