A convenience store in Alsager has had a makeover and created six new jobs in the process

The Spar shop in Crewe Road has reopened after a major refit and its manager has not ruled out taking on more staff in the future.

A Costa coffee machine has been added plus new fridges and freezers and the deli counter has been revamped and extended.

Manager, David Holland, said: "We have created six new jobs and we may be looking for more in the future.

"We're delighted with how it looks and the response from customer has been really positive."

Chair of Alsager Town Council, Councillor Phil Williams, opened the new-look store at the weekend.

"The store has a completely new layout and a more contemporary feel. It retains the convenience store aspect and combines that with fresh food cooked on the premises and a wider range of products and services.

The Spar now has a Costa machine and a milkshake and smoothie one!

"I was particularly pleased to hear how many new jobs have been created locally and its policy to support community activities.'

The store, which already donates monthly to Alsager Food Bank, is also looking for community projects to support in 2023.

"Anyone who has a project they think we could support should get in touch," says manager, David Holland.

"We do have a policy of supporting the local community and we would like to hear from community projects."
