Two Rode Heath women are bringing joy to the village and beyond after coming up with a coronation post box topper.

The amazing royal crown complete with a thistle, Tudor rose, shamrock and bunting, is gracing the post box outside Rode Heath village store.

Mimi Smissen, who lives in Millers Wharf, spent between 30 and 40 hours crocheting the crown display.

And she has been helped by fellow crocheter, Sylvia Totman, who lives in Sandbach Road, who made the thistle, rose and shamrock.

Sylvia said: "We started sewing and crocheting as a group during lockdown and now we go to a knit and natter group at Rhema Church.

"Someone from the group was so impressed they sent some crocheted animals to their grandchildren in New Zealand.

"We make all sorts of things including crocheted animals."

Mimi spotted the coronation crown design on a craft site and decided to have a go at making it.

"It's surprising how long it takes. We started about two or three months ago.

"It just brings a smile to people's faces and makes the village happy."

Both women will be watching next weekend's coronation carefully but that's not where their work stops.

For Mimi is already planning a summer post box topper complete with mallards and ducklings.
