A long-running battle to get the speed limit reduced in Richard Woodcock Way following the opening of the new Sainsbury's store last year is one step closer.

Alsager district councillor, Rod Fletcher, wrote to , Lawton Green, so vehicles no longer use it as a short cut.

Cllr Fletcher asked if the speed limit could be lowered to 20 mph to make the road safer for residents to reduce the number of motorists using it as a short cut.

Now the Alsager councillor has been told by Cheshire East Council's road safety team that the matter is being looked into and there has been a 'delay'.

An email from the road safety team said: "There has been a delay in assessing the road request of the 2025 list.

"Arrangements have been now been made to complete this work over the next three weeks, and I expect to provide a response in March 2026."

Cllr Fletcher said previously: "When the detailed Planning Application for 269 houses to be built on the former Twyford's Factory Site, Alsager Town Council objected to have a through route through the estate.

"Cheshire East planning department, however, did allow a through route. Most of this estate is now occupied and for some time, residents on Richard Woodcock Way have expressed concern about speeding vehicles using the road as a short cut from Linley Lane avoiding Lawton lights.

"I and many residents have expressed concern to Cheshire East and the developers but with very little action."

Cllr Fletcher told Nub News this week: "The initial response was no but then I was advised that it would be looked into further. I have heard nothing since. These investigations can take a long time."

Alsager Nub News has contacted Cheshire East Council for an update on this request.
