Police appeal for information following Alsager theft
Police are appealing for information following a distraction theft at a car park in Alsager.
At around 10.30am on Wednesday (June 28th), an 83-year-old man was sat in his car, a silver Mazda, outside ASDA when he was approached by an unknown woman with a clipboard.
The woman, who had a foreign accent and was wearing a light-coloured headscarf, asked the man for his signature and to give a donation for a charity.
The man agreed to add his signature, but he refused to give a donation.
Suddenly, the suspect began to kiss the man, as she did so the woman stole the victim's gold necklace, which contained an ornament and his late wife's wedding ring.
Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone with any information.
Police Constable Justin Taylor, of Congleton Local Policing Unit, said: "The items stolen by the offender were of immense personal value to the victim and we are keen to do all we can to locate them and trace the person responsible.
"The incident occurred in a busy car park and we know there were a number of people in the area at the time of the theft who may have witnessed the incident, or may have dashcam footage of the suspect.
"I would urge anyone with any information which may aid our investigation to get in touch with us on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML 1583902."
PC Taylor added: "I would also like to take this opportunity to advise residents to be vigilant and always ensure that if you are approached stranger in unusual circumstances, do not engage with them, particularly if they ask for directions or change. Be firm with them, walk away, and report any suspicious activity to the police."
