Residents living on the Lawton Green estate in Alsager will have to wait and see what happens about a request for improvements to a road which has become a rat run for motorists.

Alsager district councillor, Rod Fletcher, wrote to Cheshire East Council last year asking for improvements to Richard Woodcock Way on the former Tywford factory site so vehices no longer use it as a short cut.

People living on the estate have noticed an increase on traffic which is now using the road as a cut through to the new Sainsbury's superstore in Brunds Farm which opened at the end of February last year.

Cllr Fletcher told Nub News previously: "When the detailed Planning Application for 269 houses to be built on the former Twyford's Factory Site, Alsager Town Council objected to have a through route through the estate.

"Cheshire East planning department, however, did allow a through route. Most of this estate is now occupied and for some time, residents on Richrd Woodcock Way have expressed concern about speeding vehicles using the road as a short cut from Linley Lane avoiding Lawton lights.

"I and many residents have expressed concern to Cheshire East and the developers but with very little action."

But Cheshire East Council says no decision has been made.

A spokesperson said: "Council officers met with local councillors to consider options to reduce through traffic on this road in July 2025 and were made aware of the benefits, but also impacts, of closing the road to through traffic."
