The first Covid-19 vaccination day in Alsager, which saw 900 residents injected with the jab, has been labelled a "great success" by the leader of Cheshire East Council.

Residents received their vaccination at The Thirteen Club, on Cedar Avenue, Alsager, on Friday and further jabs were carried out at the same location yesterday (9 January).

Sam Corcoran, leader of Cheshire East Council, said: "The first Covid vaccination day in Alsager was a great success with 900 people injected with the Covid-19 vaccine.

"Further days of vaccinating will follow, with the number of vaccinations ramping up over the coming weeks."

A resident who received their vaccine wrote a note to the NHS staff and volunteers saying: "Thank you for all helping us get back to normal and risking your lives for us, your hard work and dedication won't go unnoticed."

Staff members carrying out the jabs have also received a donation of cakes, a hamper and several boxes of biscuits and chocolates since starting the vaccination roll-out.
