Many people have a passion for motoring and there's two members of a local club who stand out for different reasons.

Alsager's Allan Ward is the founding member of the M6 J16 Motoring Club, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, whose members come from far and wide but all have one thing in common - a love of driving and vehicles.

The club, which meets on the third Tuesday of the month at The Bull's Head pub in Smallwood near Sandbach, attends shows regularly, including the Classic & Retro Car Show at Trentham Gardens, with members showing their vehicles.

Earlier in the year, members exhibited at the Classic & Retro Car Revival at Tatton Park, including their eldest member, 99-year-old "Sir" Les Ardron with his Rolls-Royce Silver Spur.

Les, who was a driving instructor in his youth, is often joined by son, Paul, a retired engineer.

"I've always enjoyed driving and love cars, " said Les, affectionately known as "Sir" Les in the club. "It's such a lovely thing to do though of course the roads are much busier than they used to be."

The club's youngest member, William Anthony (20), an apprentice mechanical engineer in Stoke-on-Trent was also at the Tatton Park Show exhibiting his Honda Prelude - a 'modern classic'.

M6 J16 Motoring club, whose website is here, was formed in 2015 and as founding member Allan said: "Each year that goes by the club goes from strength to strength.

"The club is perfect for everyone who has a passion for motoring, whether it's classic vehicles, modern vehicles, cars, motorcycles or even off road vehicles.

"Your vehicle doesn't need to be in pristine condition. As long as they are loved then bring them along for the ride to many great meets and shows.

"We're a lovely friendly and family orientated club so we like to encourage the younger generation to come along too as we feel these are the future to our club so families are welcome."
