Alsager Community Theatre is renowned for producing high-class productions and their next one is no exception.

The iconic 'Goodnight Mister Tom' is a classic tale set in rural wartime England when evacuee William Beech finds himself in the company of lonely widower Thomas Oakley.

It's a story of love, loss, friendship and family and in each other they find what their lives were missing all along and develop together.

The production goes on stage at Alsager Civic from Wednesday, 26 November until Saturday 29 November and there are four young actors who will be taking part.

Frank McGregor from Tunstall plays the part of Thomas Oakley. Frank has appeared in many other productions before from Scrooge.

The four children taking part are Ben Baldwin (9), a pupil at Highfields Primary School in Alsager and Robyn Bateman (10), a pupil at Ravensmead Primary School who take it in turns to play the part of Zach.

Leon Parr (10) a pupil at St Edward's, Leek and Henry Cruxton (10) who goes to Excalibur School, taking it in turns to play the part of William.

Henry Cruxton's mum, Nina, who's also in the production said: "We have two playing the same part so they can interchange. It's very big roles. We have two full day rehearsals, the last one was on Sunday (19 October).

"It's a fabulous family play with so much history which people can relate to. The children and all the cast have worked very hard."

The play is based on the book and film of the same name. The film starred John Thaw. It's set in 1939, as Britain declares war on Nazi Germany, and children are evacuated from London to the countryside for safety.

William "Willie" Beech one of them is sent to a rural in Suffolk where he is placed in the care of Thomas Oakley, an elderly widower.

What transpires is a heartfelt story which Alsager Community Theatre is bringing to the stage. Tickets for the performance, which run from 26 November to 29 November, can be bought here or by ringing 0333 666 3366.
