An Alsager couple have opened the first part of their business which they hope will become the 'hub' of the community.

Dev Alkins and his wife Kitty together with Kitty's parents Sue and Rupert Price have opened 'Hub and Health' in Crewe Road.

The front part of the building houses an impressive coffee business serving coffee from Sheffield-based coffee roasters, Cupperschoice.

The couple did their barista training there and it's a nod to their previous home, Sheffield, where they were based until they moved back to Alsager in August.

Dev said: "We want 'Hub and Health' to be where coffee meets the community. We both grew up here and met here and we just love the sense of community."

Dev and Kitty grew up in the town and met at Alsager School before both going off to university, Kitty to study medicine and Dev to study ecology and zoology.

But it's their love of wanting to help the local community and build on health benefits that have led them and Kitty's parents to open the business.

Kitty is a trainee doctor in Stoke while her mum, Sue Price, better known as Dr Susan Pearson, is a GP at Merepark Medical Centre in Alsager.

The business will house various treatment rooms at the back for things such as acupuncture, physiotherapy and a range of other health-based services.

There are also plans to start Pilates classes at the 'Hub and Health' which is using local suppliers such as Rosie's Refills and Flower Passion in Lawton Road not to mention delicious cakes by Bell's Pantry.

"It's about a mind and body approach to well-being," said Dev. "We want it to become a place where people can come either on their own or to meet friends. It's a social space to relax."

Dietician, Harriet Lucking, who lives in Alsager, was one of their first customers. "It's a great place to come and relax and unwind," she said.
