Two GP practices in Alsager have thanked patients for their patience and understanding after a major IT outage caused havoc across the globe.

On Friday (July 19th), GP practices across the country lost access to their clinical systems, including Cedars Medical Centre and Merepark Medical Centre, in Alsager were impacted.

Both worked tirelessly to restore the issue as quickly as they could and services at both practices were impacted by the IT outage caused by Cyber-secruity firm Crowdstrike updating its antivirus software.

Merepark practice manager, Denise Smith, said staff worked all weekend and the team went in early on Monday (July 22nd).

"We had a very busy weekend. We all pulled together. On Friday it was back to pen and paper," said Denise, who added it would take a "week or two" for things to return completely to normal.

Merepark thanked patients on its Facebook page, saying: "We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Cedars Medical Centre said on Facebook: "Over the course of the weekend, some of the services, access to medical records and prescriptions, have been restored.

"As a team we are working to get any requests completed. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this time.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
