Cheshire East Labour councillors have written to Tory MPs across the borough demanding they call for the resignation of Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister and Chancellor respectively.
This follows the news that both had been issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for attending parties at the height of the first Covid-19 lockdown.
It was announced this week that both Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak, as well as Mr Johnson's wife Carrie Johnson, had received fines for their parts in the "partygate" scandal.
The news means that Boris Johnson is the first Prime Minister in history to have been found to have broken the law while in office.
Councillor Sam Corcoran, Labour Leader of Cheshire East Council and a Sandbach councillor, said, "In addition to breaking the law, the Prime Minister has clearly misled Parliament in an attempt to cover up his crime; that is a breach of the Ministerial Code.
"The Prime Minister must resign. Our local MPs should act to uphold respect for the law and the Ministerial Code.
"They should stop propping up the Prime Minister and call for him to resign."
Labour councillors from across Cheshire East are demanding local Tory MPs "put their country before their party" and "submit a letter of no confidence in the Prime Minister."
Cllr Brian Puddicombe, who represents the Macclesfield South ward on Cheshire East Council said "Enough is enough. Boris Johnson is dragging the highest office in the land into the gutter.
"Many Tory MPs have been lying low up to this point under the guise of waiting for the outcome of the police investigation. Well now we have an outcome… it's time to come off the fence and call for The Prime Minister and the Chancellor to go."
