Tatton Park is a favourite place for families and others to visit but does anyone know its history?

Members of Alsager Family History Group, which meets monthly at Alsager library, will find out more about the past of this historic place at a talk.

The society, whose next talk features Alsager Places on Monday (March 18th), is going further afield for its May talk.

May's event features a talk about the 360 years of ownership of Tatton Park by several generations of the Egerton family.

The talk, "The Egertons of Tatton Park" by David Thomas, will cover ownership from Sir Thomas Egerton, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1, to Maurice Egerton.

The fascinating talk starts at 7.30 pm and goes on until 9 pm at the library in Sandbach Road North. Admission is £2 for Family History Society of Cheshire members and £3 for visitors who are most welcome.

Next week's event features Isobel introduces her new website www.alsagerplaces.co.uk covering the period since the railway till the start of WW2 (1848-1939).

In April, the talk, "Dr Tomanzie" by Angela Brabin, features a Victorian doctor from Liverpool who performed an abortion on a girl who then died, and he was tried for murder. This takes place on Monday, April 17th.
