Runners taking part in yesterday's big Alsager 5 road race had blue skies and good running conditions.

Alsager 5 competitors took to the town's streets on Sunday for what is the first race of the season for the North Staffordshire Road Runners Association (NSRRA).

Twenty-five marshals, 10 traffic management people and 25 helpers all made sure the popular five-mile race ran like clockwork.

Runners came from far and wide for the race, including ladies' running group, Sandbach sole-mates.

Race director, Ken Rushton said: "We're very grateful for all those who helped and for the support of local residents.

"We leafleted homes in the area to let them know about the race prior to yesterday and we're grateful for Alsager's support."
