Bad weather has wreaked havoc with the sporting calendar - including the cricket season.

Alsager Cricket Club, like many in the Northwest, is starting its season two weeks later, due to pitches not being ready.

The first matches for Fairview Road club take place this weekend, after a delayed start to the season.

The first team are away to Norton in Hales while the second team is at home to Woore. The Third team play their first match at home on Sunday (May 5th).

Alsager Cricket Club chairman Alan Stancliffe said: "It's just been too wet to play cricket."

Our sister site, Sandbach Nub News, told here how the Bradwall Manor Horse Trials, due to take place last weekend, were cancelled due to the weather.

Organisers say persistent rainfall left them with "no option" but to cancel the popular two-day event.
