A cystic fibrosis sufferer has signed up for next year's London marathon – thanks to taking what she describes as her 'wonder drug'.

Justyna Zaskwara, who lives in Alsager, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when just six months old but now she's taking part in next year's big London marathon and she's raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust here

The condition affects her lungs and digestive system and can also affect other organs too as the disease progresses.

But bubbly Justyna, an accounts payable assistant, who moved to the town in 2022, has been given a new lease of life, thanks to starting a medication called Kaftrio.

Kaftrio is said to significantly improve lung function, helping people with cystic fibrosis to breathe more easily and enhance their overall quality of life.

"Four years' ago, I started a medication called Kaftrio which has improved my health allowing me to do things that before I would never have even dreamt of," she said.

"On the 27th April next year I will be taking the challenge of running London's Marathon with somewhat faulty pair of lungs.

"I'm hoping to inspire others by telling my story and also showing that despite the obstacles that life can throw your way, you can choose to live to the fullest."

Justyna has set up a page here to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust from her London Marathon run.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
