Conservatives take control of two Alsager Town Council seats following by-election

The Conservatives have taken control of two seats on Alsager Town Council following yesterday's (Thursday, 29th July) by-election.
The by-election was held following the resignation in May of two Labour representatives for East Ward, Jo Dale and Julia Hawkins. Six candidates were nominated to become their replacements.
Conservative candidates Amelia Helliwell, who will be joining her mum Sue, a Tory representative, on the town council and Rosie Redstone have been elected.
Results
- Brian Drake (Labour) 279 votes
- Amelia Helliwell (Conservative) 476 votes *ELECTED*- Lindsay Horne (Labour) 249 votes
- Reg Kain (Liberal Democrats) 228 votes- Richard McCarthy (Green Party) 124 votes
- Rosie Redstone (Conservatives) 437 votes *ELECTED* Labour who were attempting to retain control of the two seats fielded two candidates, Brian Drake and Lindsay Horne, whilst there was a candidate each for the Lib Dems and Green Party. Representing the Green Party was Richard McCarthy, who stood as its candidate for the Congleton Constituency during the 2019 general election. Reg Kain was the Lib Dem candidate. Following the by-election, Alsager Town Council now has six Lib Dem councillors, five Conservatives, two Labour and one Animal Welfare Party councillor. The turnout for the by-election was 24.34%.
