Community rallies round: The Lawton Arms pub hosts events for baby Lara's care

A pub near Alsager is raising money to help buy equipment for a little girl from Rode Heath who suffered a stroke and has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
Landlady Richia O'Neill, who took over the Lawton Arms pub in Liverpool Road West last summer, is helping the family of Lara England buy vital equipment for her.
The pub already held a fundraising day last month for Lara, who lives with her family in Chapel Lane, Rode Heath, and now they are busy organising an 'Ibiza style' day party on 20 June.
Fifty per cent from the sale of the £5 wristbands will be donated to support Lara and her family and a JustGiving page has been set up here for donations.
Richia said: "Lara was a happy, healthy seven-month-old baby—already standing, cruising along furniture, and beginning to say her first words, then, without warning, Lara suddenly became unconscious.
"Over the next three days, she suffered three near-fatal episodes. After an incredibly frightening and uncertain time, doctors diagnosed her with Type 1 diabetes but the challenges didn't stop there.
"On day four, Lara suffered a devastating stroke. She was left in critical condition for two weeks, fighting for her life.
"The stroke caused severe damage—leaving Lara fully paralysed on her right side. She lost her ability to walk, talk, and even eat or drink independently.
"Now, at 22 months old, Lara requires round-the-clock care. Her diabetes must be managed 24/7, and due to the effects of the stroke, she is still fed through a feeding tube directly into her stomach.

"Lara's journey is far from over. She faces ongoing therapies, specialist care, and constant medical support to help her regain as much independence as possible and to manage her complex needs.
"We are raising funds to support Lara and her family during this incredibly difficult time. Donations will help cover, specialist medical care and therapies, equipment to support her daily needs, ongoing diabetes management and travel and associated medical costs.
"Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in Lara's life. Thank you for helping Lara continue her fight."
Richia, who described the Englands as a "gorgeous family", is hoping as many people as possible will come along to the event on 20 June.
Lara's dad, Charlie England said: "We're so grateful for everything the Lawton Arms is doing for us.
"Lara has an extremely rare condition and the equipment needed for her care is expensive. Thank you to everyone who is helping."
