From beans to buildings … Alsager coffee shop owner, Alex Melhuish's talents have spilled over into a new chapter of his family's life.

The talented businessman, who opened Home Coffee & Studio in Lawton Road last summer with wife Nikki, has formally launched the other side to his business.

Architect-trained Alex now has designs not only making the best coffee in town but also the best homes for people to live in!

The father-of-two has formally launched Home Studio Architects, using skills honed at university and over many years of practice as an architect.

"My approach is founded on unlocking the hidden potential in buildings by designing spaces that function well while being respectful of their existing character setting," said Alex.

"I wouldn't describe myself as having a particular style, although I tend to favour a "timeless" approach using natural materials with neutral and calming tones," he added.

Alex is keen on designing homes which function for people and which improve their everyday lives by fitting in with their lifestyle and family.

He has worked on many projects during years as an architect in Manchester, working for a number of companies from OMI Architects, Ollier Smurthwaite Architects to LDA Design.

"I specialised in residential architecture and existing building conversion/renovation, including the Mill in Stockport while I was at Ollier Smurthwaite," said Alex.

"My latter experience at LDA Design was in master-planning and urban regeneration, so I have been involved in every stage/scale of design from home remodelling to residential and town centre masterplans. I also have some commercial/office experience."

Alex's other business, Home Coffee & Studio, which we revealed here https://alsager.nub.news/news/local-news/up-close-with-the-architect-turned-coffee-shop-owner-who-has-designs-on-helping-the-town-to-flourish-even-further-147556 has gone from strength to strength. More staff have been taken on to allow Alex and Nikki to develop the business further.

The coffee shop is now a popular destination in Alsager with a "home from home" feeling serving top-notch coffee and food.

And just like Alex's attention to detail on the drawing board and in the design studio, Home Coffee & Studio is run with the same flair and passion.
