Campaigning Alsager town councillor resigns after several years in the position

An Alsager town councillor has stepped down from the council after seven years in her position.

Cllr Sue Helliwell, who has fought numerous planning issues whilst on the council, handed in her resignation yesterday (Monday).

Sue, who volunteers for various groups including the Alsager branch of the Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Group, cited health issues for one of her reasons for resigning as a councillor for the central ward, Alsager.

She said: "I have enjoyed helping residents since 2015 and getting things done for Alsager.

"I wish to thank all of the staff at Alsager Town Council for all their help over the years."

Nicola Clarke, Town Clerk, said: "We thank Sue for her service as a councillor and wish her well in the future."

Sue has helped residents with various campaigns in the past and launched a petition calling on Cheshire East to install a zebra crossing in part of Alsager.

In December last year, she launched a campaign to stop Cheshire East Council from disposing of a public open space near allotments in Talke Road, leafleting 150 houses near the area.
