Students from Manchester School of Architecture today (Monday) presented some of their ideas to residents in Alsager.

The budding architects have been tasked with providing ideas for an area of Milton Park by a newly-formed local arts enterprise – Studiolab.

Studiolab is the brainchild of Alsager businessmen, architect, Alex Melhuish founder of founder and owner of Home Coffee Alsager & Home Studio Architects and Alex Hough, who owns the building at Two door Studio.

And today the students from Manchester showcased their ideas on a table outside Alsager Civic and made a presentation to Alsager and District U3A.

The students, who are only days into the project, produced a model of Alsager plus various plans and sketches.

The work focuses around Milton Park' skate park and the entrance to the park from the small car park as we revealed in our story here

Sam Jones, one of the Manchester School of Architecture students, said it was clear Alsager has a real 'community feel'.

He said: "We're using a fun place idea. It's about providing a more pleasant public space and generating positive change with genuine thoughts."

The begin with, the team focused on site analysis, looking at how pedestrians perceived the site and how the site relates to the town.

"By acknowledging the relation to the town of Alsager, the group began to consider how the project can connect to different areas of the town," said the students.

"We experimented with small wayfinding devices that connect people all over the park and the town to our site."

Alsager's deputy mayor, Councillor Michael Unett, was among those who went along to see the exhibition.

"The designs are really impressive," he said. "It's fantastic to see ideas on how we could improve these areas."

Several residents stopped to look at the exhibition and ask the students questions. Their comments are being taken on board before the students present final plans later this week.
