Alsager is throwing itself behind the Ukrainian appeal

A Polish woman living in Alsager has launched an appeal to support Ukrainian refugees fleeing their country following the Russian invasion.

Daria Szustak has put out an SOS for a long list of items needed to keep families afloat who have fled their homes carrying just a bag.

She is collecting items in Alsager and the surrounding area ready to be transported to Poland on Saturday.

Daria, from Bogatynia in Poland, said they have met the limit for clothing and is asking people to prioritise items on the list.

She said:

  • We currently need:
  • packed/canned food with long "use by" date (something that does not require cooking)
  • energy bars
  • dried fruits
  • rice
  • pasta
  • sleeping bags
  • blankets
  • water proof covers and clothing
  • formula milk for babies
  • smaller size toys
  • nappies (for kids but also adult sizes)
  • sanitary pads
  • toothbrushes, soap, shower gels, shampoos etc,
  • towels
  • paper towels
  • wet tissues
  • facemasks
  • cutlery, plates, cups etc (cutlery metal, other items plastic)
  • torches
  • batteries
  • paracetamol or other painkillers
  • bandages and plasters
  • anything else that you think could be of use to those that left their homes in rush with a single bag....
Daria said: "If you would like to support Ukrainian refugees in Poland, I am collecting donations until Friday. Transport of donations will be leaving to Poland on Saturday. "You can drop off donations in Alsager or I can collect from Alsager and any surrounding areas. Please pm me on Messenger if interested or share the post if you know someone who maybe."
