Officers from Cheshire Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of hate related communications in relation to a Facebook post inciting hatred.

At around 2pm on Monday, 5 August police received a complaint in relation to the hateful tone of a message which had been posted on a community group in the Kidsgrove area.

Following enquiries, officers arrested a 53-year-old woman from Alsager in relation to the incident. The woman is currently being held in police custody.

Chief Superintendent Jonathan Betts said: "Hate crime is not acceptable, whatever its motivation, and we will take robust action against all those involved in such activity.

"Those posting such messages have done so in order to cause division in our communities, and we are committed to doing all we can to ensure that those responsible for such posts are held accountable for their actions."
