An Alsager vets has issued some tips about keeping our furry friends safe this Halloween.

Alsager Vets4pets in Lawton Road urge pet owners to keep chocolate and sweets out of their reach as chocolate, raisins/currants and sweets containing xylitol, which is poisonous.

They also say:

·      Be careful with lit pumpkins & candles - lit candles (even inside a pumpkin) could burn or cause serious injuries. Keep dogs well away especially with coats and jackets these can be a fire risk.

·      Be aware of trick or treaters - unfamiliar visitors in costumes can cause your pets to become uncomfortable. Create a safe/quiet space for them out of the way to relax.

·      Think twice before walking your dog - early in the mornings and late evenings to avoid bumping into trick or treaters.

·      Keep decorations out of paws' reach - Halloween decorations can cause serious injuries if your pet becomes tangled, and pose serious risk to health if eaten, causing blockages both in the airways or the stomach.

Stay safe this Halloween and bonfire night.
