Residents in Alsager are set to have revamped town centre benches – thanks to the Queen!

Alsager Town Council allocated £2,000 in the budget to offer local groups to hold events to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.

The benches are getting a facelift by being painted and revamped

Groups could apply for grants of £200 per application for to hold an event and around £800 was left over.

Alsager Town Council voted to use the money to purchase a bench or similar to install in the town centre to commemorate the event.

The benches are used regularly by residents and visitors

And now work has started on revamping the benches and putting special plaques in place to commemorate the important occasion.

Nicola Clarke, Alsager Town Clerk said: "We have started to gradually work on benches outside Alsager Civic which should be completed in the next few weeks.

"The benches will have the town crest and some will have the official Jubilee plaque."

The benches are regularly used by residents and visitors to the town and the move we are sure will be greatly appreciated by local residents.
