Swimming fans will be cheering on one swimmer tonight in the Commonwealth Games – 17-year-old Poppy Maskill.

Poppy is a member of Alsager Swimming Club who is competing in the S14 200m Freestyle at the games in Birmingham.

The club said on Social Media: " Poppy's race has gone straight to a final so there are no heats to watch in the morning.

"The final should take place at 7:14 pm and Poppy has been drawn in lane two.

"This will be a close race. Bethany Firth of Northern Ireland is ranked number one and should win but the Silver and Bronze medals could go anywhere and as we saw at the World Championships, Poppy can be up there with the very best of the world."

Another post read: "This follows on from her recent success at the Para World championships in Madeira where Poppy came home with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

"The BBC are covering tonight's swimming, with this event scheduled at 7:14pm.

"Please support Poppy by watching or follow Alsager Swimming Club for updates."

Alsager Nub News wishes Poppy the very best of luck.
