Alsager Rotary Club has welcome its new president at a party attended by honorary member, Congleton MP, Fiona Bruce.

Forty Rotarians, partners, and guests, including Fiona Bruce MP, were invited to join Teresa and Don Longhurst BEMin their garden, for a celebratory lunch.

Don is this year's president , the second time in nine years he has held the position and he has pledged to put the rotary name firmly on the map.

Two years ago, Don was been awarded the Medal of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) in the New Year honours list for his dedication to scouting and the Alsager community.

He said the club's mission for the coming year was to continue supporting current projects and organisations, such as Alsager Food Bank, Alsager Swans, The Senior Citizen Show, and any international disaster events.

"However, from recent conversations with friends and the public, it is a big concern how few know what Rotary is and the service that Rotary and its members provide to the community," he said.

"Therefore the club's main focus this year must raise the public's awareness of Rotary and what it does. Rotary isn't just about fundraising and public service but building friendships through fellowship and social events."

He added: "The club is always open to new members. There are no age limit to Rotary, so whether you're in your youth or mature and want to give something back to the community or just make new friends, check us out."
